SUPPORT THE CAMPAIGN TO KEEP POOLE COASTGUARD BOAT
The UK coastguard Service has for years, been regarded very highly as one of the Best CG services in the world. Not for much longer if this carries on! Not content with closing key stations around the UK, removing CG boats and re-considering Helicopter cover, they'll be removing Coast Rescue Vehicles next......not that that'll make much difference, considering we have to turn out in our OWN VEHICLES 9 times out of 10 as it is! Keep up the stirling work chaps.....right behind you! Regards, Another P*ssed off coastguard!
Great site,...... I thought I would let you know we (HAYLING ISLAND) are in the same state as yourselves regarding the boat policy. We are shortly losing our Avon Searider with no replacement. As you know we cover the Solent area, a very busy patch, but, as usual it is very difficult to prove to the bean counters that casualty prevention is worthwhile and that is what we mostly do. Our boat has saved many lives over the years and prevented the loss of many more. Patrolling the beaches and harbours is what we do and we are good at it, is this the thin end of the wedge, will shore patrols go next? If so we might as well all go home!! Keep up the good work.
Dear
friends, First, thanks for a great site which is informative and
clear in its navigation. Keep up the good works for all us
sailors who hope never to see you in your official capacity,
sleep much the better for your being there.
That Poole is to lose its boat is typical of todays accountancy
run world. Such bungling decisions fail to surprise me any more.
So, who do we contact to register our deep felt objections to
this cretinous decision please ?? This contact info would be best
published here on this forum to allow all us users and visitors
alike to respond where you the guys taking the risks have you
hands tied and have been effectively gagged ???? Please add this
to your site under forum and lets get the public to apply
pressure where it's badly needed.
A contact name and some form of contact method would be good.
Thanks again for your vigilance and service to all us sea-going
folk. Yours appreciatively
Hi
all,
I am a member of Walney Island Coastguard and I have just visited
your site and I will say that it is very good, but the reason I an
emailing is to let you know that we are having the same trouble
with our boat as you.
What I would like to know is how can a team of coasties be
threatened with the sack when at the end of the day all you are
doing is trying to keep a vital tool in which to make the job
safe and effective,we on walney are of the mind that whoever is
at the reigns of this sham is just an utter fool(insert stronger
names as you see fit!)and I would just like to say good luck with
your fight and if they have the audacity to sack you all then the
fight will get even harder because us lads up north are willing
to do whatever it takes to make them see sense!once again good
luck and best wishes
As a CG from another station whose GP Boat is also being removed and not replaced, I think it's outrageous that anyone in the public services should be threatened with the sack for making the very public we serve aware of what is being done in their name. The powers that be should also be aware of the power of the local and national media.....
I have had the pleasure (if that's the right term ?) of recieving assisstance from your good selves. I have to say that the boat crew were most professional and whilst you may not have saved my life, you certainly prevented an unfortunate situation becoming far more dangerous. I find the decision to take the boat away incredulous bearing in mind how busy a harbour Poole is. I will certainly be writing to the Chief Coastguard to express my support for yourselves.
How can they possibly justify removing Poole boat? You guys towed me off the chains at the back of the Sandbanks ferry after I passed too close couple of years back. It could easily have been disaster but for your prompt intervention. Good luck with your campaign - I support you wholeheartedly. Who do I write to?
Stuff the threats - talk to the press. I will happily talk to them on your behalf
As someone who sails in Poole Harbour I am at a loss to understand how anyone, let alone the Chief Coastguard, can say there is no busines case for your boat. Good luck with your campaign to keep it
I am a member of the Royal Motor YC and was wondering why we had not seen your boat moored down here this year. The decision to take the coastguard boat away is an absolute disgrace. I am sure all the members here will support the campaign to keep the boat. Have you got a petition going?
Oh no - not again. The Coastguard chiefs never learn. They only seem to have one line of thought - how can we cut back the level of service. Their culture of service cuts and penny pinching is damaging the Coastguard service in the eyes of the public. How or why you guys soldier on continues to amaze me - your dedication is a credit to an organisation that scarcely deserves it. You have won the last couple of fights to keep the boat - I hope you win this one too. Best wishes
As a safety conscious diver I'm in the process of putting together an emergency assistance plan for diving from a R.I.B., I would be very interested in any input you may have for this project. I have seen your website for safety afloat and was wondering if you have any specific advice for divers on Boats. Luke Spence.

Hi Please could you tell me where the best place to head for is to waterski in The Poole Bournemoth Area? Many Thanks Mike
Just reading about the rules for passing the chain ferry,I had the the pleasure of ramming that on a neap tide, while learning to sail, with a tipsy skipper. If he had obeyed just one of the rules stated we would have been fine.As it was,we drifted into the side of it,nearly getting dragged under.Do not underestimate the harbour entrance. mo gillson

Kindly advise what is used for combating oil spill on sea. is it the chemical dispersant or bioremediaton material. In India we use only chemical dispesats with spray nozzles on boats, aerial spray. Kindly reply by email. c.m.swethi
Hi, I live in Vancouver, British Columbia Canada, and was searching web links for navigation aids, such as running light standards for boats and searching for the elusive former "steaming Light" references, which I'm led to believe has been renamed the "masthead light", when I came across your site. Can you confirm this for me. I immigrated to Canada from Bournemouth, back in the '50s where I was born, and came across your site by accident. It was interesting reading your log book. Finding your site brought all sorts of memories back to me, and I applaud your efforts and your site. Keep up the good work,Graham
