Interested In Joining The Coastguard ?

 

Membership of the Auxiliary Coastguard Rescue Service is open to both men and women of 16 years of age and upwards. There is no fixed upper age limit for enrolement but the normal maximum age for service is 60. As you may be required to respond to requests to attend coastal incidents during working hours you will be required to formally notify your employer of your enrolement. As a member of a Coastguard team you would be expected to carry out at least 20 hours training per year and be able to respond to the scene of an incident ideally within 30 minutes. Apply to the Sector Manager of your local Coastguard Station, or the local Coastguard Maritime Rescue Co-ordination Centre, details of which can be found in your local telephone book.

They will be able to supply full details of all positions available along with any entry qualifications. Coastguard Officers will require maritime experience. Coastguard watch Assistants, Administration and Support Staff do not need previous maritime knowledge or experience. A good general standard of education, an interest in the marine environment and the ability to demonstate an aptitude for the job can be more valuable than specific qualifications.
